What a week :)

Been a busy bee sorting out and rearranging my studio into a more workshop holding friendly space, I am currently writing up the workshops I want to teach then I will go mental and post them everywhere although I will only be able to have a max of four people at one time.  I am also working on a few commissions and doing some online tutorials (still) the biggest thing is trying to set up a nice photography area and work out how to film the tutorials...how to edit etc :S  oh well I love learning so that's no problem.

Before...

After... The room still needs a bit of a touch up but it is basically there :)

I have been working on a collection of F1 driver pictures done in Faber Castell polychromos and I also will start using my Caran D'Ache Luminance pencils too.

Journaling some great quotes and getting some good pages together in my notebooks.

A little F1 doodling on the train.

With my crafty side still firing on all cylinders I have scanned a few decorations that I have put together and you can use these collage pictures in your art :)

Wow is it March already... yep must be as it was my birthday this week and my last post was in January (rubbish I know but if I had more comments I would be more inclined to keep up :) but I know I have said this before I am writing up plans at the moment for weekly updates of my online stuff and this will be one of them) I am going to keep up more regularly even if it is with no pictures or links etc

Ok well I have done loads of stuff since my last post, I will post some of the better pics here but if you want to keep a really regular follow on my projects then follow me on instagram and twitter... I am ALWAYS on instagram :)

Well to start, I am in the process of redesigning all my business stuff from website to business cards etc and even opening a new website as the old one was so complicated to change, the platform was hard work and time consuming and didn't seem very up to date in construction so I have gone for a better one and although it won't have my own designed domain name just yet, the website will be 100 times better with nicer graphics and templates to use.  I am also opening two more shops so I will eventually have one on Etsy, Big Cartel and Society6.
As I said above if you wan to keep up with my regular updates then follow me on,

instagram - littlemisscrafty
twitter - @Julietmarshy
youtube - Little Miss Crafty Tv
facebook - Little Miss Crafty (there is a page and a group, the page gets more updates)

These are some of my newly designed icons... like ?
I have also started to update my Etsy shop with some bird jewellery that i made last year but hadn't listed, they are all handmade and hand painted and more importantly...one off's so get them while they are there because once it's gone it's gone :)

SOOOOOO excited that the F1 season is back in less than a week...oh F1 how I have missed you !
This longing has prompted me to start a little collection of drawing each driver with my extensive collection of awesome pencils, there are two completed ones for Ferrari, Alonso and Raikkonen.. Vettel is 90% finished and I have Hamilton, Rosberg and the Ferrari F14T driven by Alonso on the go too, with any luck they will get done this week.

Later this year I am hoping to hold a little exhibition of works in my studio space, all based on Birds, there will be all kinds of media used, from large canvases to ink illustrations to 3D works and jewellery, there will be items for sale but everything will be birds :)

New for 2014 is my range of hand made and hand picked craft kits.  Some are in the shop now and some have gone, although at this very moment I have six more sitting on my desk that need to be listed.  I have hand made all the crochet pieces, pom poms, bows etc

There are also a few decorated notebooks available in the shop too... I am going to add more but ones that I have bound myself and as part of kits too, I am writing up workshops at the moment for online and my studio and one or two will be book binding based.

This is an example of one of my craft kits, the kit includes the bracelet and decorations, all you have to do is assemble it in whatever configuration you like, I have tried to make the nicest colour combinations and all the kits will be available for one week only at £5 plus p&p, see my instagram or facebook for notification of when that will be ready.

Had a little fun making tiny crochet squares too.

Another work in progress is a box full of hand bound miniature books waiting for covers and to put put onto necklaces and other fastenings :)

Picture from another craft kit... my favourite, cherry blossom flowers

This is one of my little icon illustrations for my new website and there are a couple available in my shop for £1 to download, one is for the F1 2014 season with lots of cool illustrations :)

How to fold a zine

I have just made this quick video to show you how to fold a zine especially if you download my ones you need to know how it goes, also the decorated side should be on the outside so when you fold the blank side is on the inside.  I may make a better video but thought this would help for now.

Please ignore my terrible nail varnish, it is being repaired tonight :)

First post of the year !

Welcome 2014 I've been waiting for you ;) !!  hope you all had fun wherever you are in the world, I have only seen our firework display in London but it was bloody good :)

Ok so towards the end of last year I got interested again in Zines which is a small self made publication, that lots of people do as collectables so I am going to really try and do one every 1-2 weeks on something different, some are mini tutorials and others are just random pictures, drawings etc but it's fun because I can do it on the train and at lunch times too.

So my first one you can download, print out and fold yourself...keep a little collection.  And some I might sell in my shop in a little gift pack :).

How to make a mini sock horse :)

Just drag the picture from here to your desk top, don't click on it first, just drag this image from here then you can increase the image size to A4 which is a UK standard size paper google the size dimentions if you don't have that size option, I am going to add it to my facebook pages too and website www.thelittlemisscrafty.com but if you are still having trouble then leave a message and I will email it to you...

I am also going to share a little 'how to' on paper lanterns with tassels,  it was done for Christmas as you can tell by the paper but alas I didn't upload in time.. however change the paper and you can make and use them all year round for decorating the house or for a party ...

I have used 6x6 inch paper because I have lots of scrapbook paper sets in this size but you can use any size square you like but I suggest an 8x8 inch is probably the biggest to use as any bigger might
not hold it's shape...

1. Fold paper in half and measure equal lines from the crease to the outside edges leaving a gap of at least 2cm at the outer edges (so you don't cut all the way across) and each line should be approx 1.5cm or 15mm apart.

 2. Using sharp scissors or a craft knife cut across each line you have drawn.

 3. Double sided paper looks really nice instead of just one side unless you are going for a less complicated look. See how the strips are cut leaving the outer edge...

 5.  Take a piece of tissue paper as it is very lightweight, the same size as the lantern piece and make slim cuts almost to the top leaving 1cm at the top.

 6. Glue the top of the tissue to the bottom of the card (on the inside)

7. Bring the edges together over lapping the side outer edges and fix with strong pva or double sided tape and add a staple to the top..

8. And the bottom making sure you are careful to not scrunch up the tassels.

9. Firmly but gently squash the lantern down so that the strips separate and it looks like a lantern.

10. Make lots.....

11. Punch small holes, one on either side at the top of each lantern..

12. Using some nice string, wool, cord or ribbon etc string on all your lanterns ( you can fix in place with knotting after stringing each one or gluing inside etc)

And there you are :) make lots of strings in different sizes, colours, using metallic wrap, small bells for a nice tinkling sound...

Let me know how you get on and post the pics on my facebook page,

Have fun !
